...singing and dancing in circle time.

...creating Chicago skylines with fireworks in the background during art!

...playing games on the school roof and waving to the Brown Line El!

...reading a story and chatting with friends during snack.

...singing songs about the El and pretending to be animals at the Lincoln Park Zoo!

...making "Chicago-style deep dish" bagel pizza!

Snapshots of a WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY!

Today we...
...knew all the words to every song during circle time!

...made golden egg-laying chickens in art (with Miss Sam)!

...enjoyed the BEAUTIFUL weather while playing all sorts of fun games on the roof!

...had an outdoor picnic and then played on the playground!

...planted MAGIC BEANS! If the paper towels are kept wet, and the cup is left in the sun, the magic beans will grow WITHOUT SOIL! Miss Steph has some growing in a paper towel at her house right now -- they make beans you can eat!

...acted out Jack and the Beanstock! (Our camera ran out of batteries at this point, hence the single photo.)

...shared our favorite parts of the day, sang some songs and said our goodbyes!

Quick snippets from a TERRIFIC TUESDAY!

Here we are...

...singing and dancing in circle time.

...creating huge, four-eyed, eight-legged spiders during art!

...playing spider tag and other games outside on the roof!

...reading Miss Spider's Tea Party and eating snack.

...pretending to turn into spiders, then putting clues together to save Miss Spider's baby spiders!

...learning a magic trick called "The Strongest Spider Web!" We learned how to make it look like we could keep a string (AKA a spider web) intact after cutting it!

How it's done:

Cut a slit in a straw.
Slip your string through the straw.
Fold the straw (with string inside) in half.
Pull on the bottom ends of the strings (so that middle of string sticks out of straw slits, behind your fingers).
Cut the straw in half.
Pull out the string quickly and show the audience!

TAAAAADAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Quick highlights and photos from a magnificent Monday at Bubbles Academy Camp!

Today we:

Sang songs during circle time!

Made invisible ink out of baking soda (in honor of wizard day) and water, and decorated water color leaf pictures in art!

Played hide and go seek, wizard tag and jump rope outside!

Read a story and chatted about riding boats during snack.

Pretended we were wizards who could change our friends into different creatures during imagination!

Learned how to turn water into ice with our magically cold breath!

Revealed our invisible ink pictures and messages with magic grape juice!

August 5th!

Unfortunately our camera ran out of batteries today, so we were unable to take any photos! It's too bad because the Bubbles Campers dove into every activity head first, with tons of enthusiasm.

Today we...

Sang our hello song in different animal voices during opening circle time!

Made homemade clay and tried to mold it into snakes! Though our recipe was a little too wet to mold easily, everyone had fun pouring, mixing and squishing the clay.

Played Cowboy/girl Tag outside! In this game, we called the taggers cowboys or cowgirls. If a camper was tagged, they got down on their hands and knees and said, "moo!" until someone petted them while saying, "Nice cow, nice cow." Once you were petted, you were free to run from the Cowboy/girl again!

Played Don't Touch The Lasso! Miss Steph transformed herself into a cowgirl. She spun around (slowly and close to the ground) with a jump rope (AKA lasso) while the campers pretended to be cows jumping over the lasso so it didn't catch them as it came by!

Practiced jump roping!

Read a story and ate snack. At snack, some of the campers talked about having brothers and sisters at home. Others chatted about where they would be going over the weekend.

Created sheriff badges and bandannas during art!

Sang the Slippery Fish song and talked about our favorite parts of the camp day during closing circle. Just about everyone either liked playing Cowboy/girl Tag or making bandannas the most!

August 4th!

Constant laughter was heard from our Bubbles Academy Campers today!

The day started off strong! We played with our friends in the Bubbles Camp Classroom! Mr. Andy, a new teacher at Bubbles Camp, made opening play time EXTRA fun by acting like a hungry dinosaur who chased the little toy dinosaurs away!

Once all of our camp friends had arrived, we transitioned into a high-energy opening circle. We sang all of our favorite songs fast, slow, and in some pretty silly voices. We used magic words to change our scarves into things like bubble gum, ears, toes, and even garbage!

We went outside to play games right after circle! Today it was kids' choice day, so we played Hide and Go Seek, What Time Is It Mr. Fox, Duck Duck Goose and Chase!

Then we all gathered together to drink water, wipe off our hands and MAKE VANILLA ICE CREAM!! We worked as a team to add milk, sugar, and vanilla. Then we took turns shaking our little bag of ingredients in a larger bag filled with ice and salt!

After making our ice cream, we sat down for snack so that we could rest, re-energize and enjoy the fruits of our toil. The ice cream was DELICIOUS!

We were ready for adventure after snack! So we warmed up our bodies and said the Superhero Oath:
         "I promise to help, not hurt,
          To protect everyone from harm,
          And to use my brain over my muscles."

Then went on a mission to bring King Tut's cats home! We rode in our balloon to Egypt after strengthening it with our super powers.

Then we dressed up like Pharaohs to sneak into a pyramid and look for clues about where King Tut's cats went!

We put the clues together then found the cats on the roof!

We brought them downstairs and put them in their home for King Tut to find!

Then, before we knew it, it was time for our closing circle. We talked about the best parts of the day. Popular favorites were making the ice cream, finding the clues, finding the cats, and playing What Time Is It Mr. Fox! Then we sang our goodbyes and played until our grown-ups came!

August 3rd!

What an EXCELLENT group of friends we had at Bubbles Academy Camp today!

Everyone was excited to play with their friends, new and old! Cheerful greetings from camper to camper were heard all morning!

After everyone arrived at camp, we went to morning circle time where we stuck bubble gum to different parts of our bodies while singing Icky Sticky Bubble Gum; made our ears, heads, bodies and tongues hang low while singing Do Your Ears Hang Low; and blew and popped balloons while singing The Balloon Song!

Then we put some white flowers in food colored water so that they'd drink the water and turn a different color!

Once our experiment was finished, we went upstairs and outside to play tag, what time is it Mr. Fox, soccer, and hide and seek.

One of the COOLEST parts of today was when a group of campers organized their own game of duck, duck, goose, ALL BY THEMSELVES! EVERYONE played VERY nicely!

After eating a picnic snack outside, it was time to go in and act out the book, Horton Hears A Who!

After the story, we went next door to make a Horton elephant hat!

We finished our elephant hats, cleaned up and sat down to talk about our favorite parts of camp. The most popular favorites were the flower project and playing oustide!

When we were done chatting, it was time to go. So we sadly sang our goodbyes and waited for our grown ups to pick us up!

What a day we had at Bubbles Academy Camp!

Our campers were SUPER enthusiastic about singing and dancing during circle time! We sang Icky Sticky Bubble Gum, Do Your Ears Hang Low, Tudy Tott, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, Blow The Balloon and our Bubbles Hello Song!

Once we were warmed up and ready to move, we went outside to the rooftop playground to play Hide and Go Seek, Miss Steph is a Silly Goat, Tag, Duck Duck Goose and more!

After a hard-earned water break or two, we went back to our camp classroom and made some clown masks during art. One side of our project showed a happy clown and the other side showed a sad clown! Everyone did an excellent job listening and showing off their creativity! One of the clowns had three eyes (Jaques)!

When art was over, we read Rapunzel and then ate snack. We had a lot of fun telling each other silly knock knock jokes and talking about where we like to swim!

After snack, we pretended that we were different kinds of performers at the circus. We galloped like unicorns to the beat of Miss Steph's symbols. We grew BIG trunks like elephants and squirted water on the crowd. Then we pretended to put on a red nose, some crazy colored hair and HUGE shoes so we'd look like clowns! It was a blast making silly faces, doing silly clown walks, pretending to fall and pretending to be shot out of a cannon!

When we were done with our circus, we worked as a team to mix some sugar with cinnamon to make some cinnamon rolls! They were delicious!

Finally, it was time to say our goodbyes. We sang some silly clown songs during circle, talked about our favorite parts of camp and then said our goodbyes!

A grand time was had by all!

What a wonderful Friday! Today we:

Played soccer (campers vs. teachers -- the teachers lost), Hide and Go Kick The Ball, and Dodge Ball Tag on the rooftop playground!

Then we custom designed our own superheroes/superhero costumes and made model magic volcanoes erupt during art!

Before snack, our new friend, Drew, read us a story -- she was an EXCELLENT READER! She made the story fun to hear.

We ate some snack, played for a few minutes then went on a superhero adventure! We learned about fingerprints, used ink and paper to see what our fingerprints looked like, then went on a mission to get Miss Steph's Superhero Certificate back! We figured out who stole the certificate by matching the thief's fingerprints to Miss Steph's little brother. Luckily he had stepped in mud on his way out of Catherine Cook, so we followed his tracks and found Miss Steph's certificate!

We celebrated our success by making S'More Pie with graham cracker crumbs, chocolate pudding and marshmallows!

Then, before we knew it, it was time to sing our goodbyes and go home.

The Lorax, The Lion and The Mouse Day

We had fun stayin' cool today at Bubbles Camp!

We danced and sang our hearts out during morning circle time!

We spent 10 minutes outside playing Wonderball Chase and drinking LOTS of water.

It was TOO HOT to stay out any longer than that, so we went downstairs to make some Popsicles out of fruit juice!

Then we talked about maintaining the health of our natural environment when we read The Lorax.

We ate some snack and then played Freeze Tag and Sharks and Minnows in the gym.

Then it was time to act. We pretended to be all sorts of animals in an adapted version of The Lion And The Mouse.

During art we created a mouse and a lion mask so that we could act out the story at home!

Then we planted seeds to help the environment (just like in The Lorax).

Finally, it was time to eat our now frozen popsicles and share our thoughts about camp. We sang our goodbye song, cleaned up and played until our grown ups came.

It was a summer-filled day at camp today! We embraced the heat by playing outside, making ice-cold popsicles, and learning about the amazing water cycle.

Enjoying a cool drink of water outside while singing their own original song! Awesome tunes girls!

Using our creative imaginations to make Open Play a blast!

We found this unique knight wizard galloping around Catherine Cook!

The campers were FABULOUS listeners and very interested in the water cycle! There were many steps to our Water Cycle art project and the campers took their time on each specific step! They added cotton ball clouds, the water and land, a bright shining sun and evaporating water. They did a terrific job on their art and it turned out GREAT!

We ended our busy day by eating our homemade popsicles! What a TASTY treat the campers made themselves. They made white grape, apple and cranberry apple popsicles to enjoy on the rooftop.

What a great day we had!

Blog's Back In Action: July 18th!

Tons of positive energy could be felt from the very start of camp today! We started with a spirited morning circle time!

After singing songs and saying our hellos, we went outside to play games like Sharks and Minnows and Hide and Go Seek!

We went downstairs, did an two art projects, ate snack and then trained to be SUPERHEROES!!

As Superheroes, we practiced our morphing powers by changing into different types of animals. Then we went on a mission to bring some lost animals home to their forest. Once we found them, we had to cheer them up by playing a few rounds of team Musical Chairs with the animals on our laps. It was really fun. As chairs were taken away, we all had to pile onto less and less chairs--and help our friends stay on the chairs with us. Though there were was AN OVERLOAD of photo ops, our camera stopped working at this point. The kids did AN EXCELLENT job helping their friends and had a great time dancing to the music.

After Superhero Training, we acted out a book in Drama! The book was all about following our dreams and liking who we are. We talked about what we want to be when we grow up: Ava and Hudson wanted to be surgeons, Gael wanted to be a Superhero, Caitlin wanted to be a Mail Carrier and Lily wanted to be Ariel the Mermaid.

After that, it was time for us to say our goodbyes.

Happy Friday, campers! Today was a bright and beautiful day at Bubbles camp. After stretching out our bodies we ran, jumped and laughed as we played some fun outdoor games.

Later was yoga, set to the book A Fly Went By. In art we made and decorated paper airplanes and flew them right off the balcony!

In drama, after shaking our sillies out, we talked about our dreams and what we want to be when we grow up. We learned a magic trick that used a foam cup, did the Twinkle Twinkle Dance and acted out all different sorts of occupations like being an astronaut, a ballerina, fireman and more.

In art we made a card for our friends or families before we said goodbye to morning campers.

Afternoon camp was full of wild adventures, including Where the Wild Things Are yoga! We did poses as we read the book, including downward dog, table pose, tree pose, boat pose and full moon pose. This activity was a lot of fun, because we engaged our minds as well as our bodies!

We made crowns and boats on the ocean during art time and then brushed up on our Superhero oath and skills during circle time. Freeze dance was the fun ending to this wonderful camp day.

Pictures to follow!

Today we had a major bug-venture! We started by discussing all of the different types of bugs in the world and which kinds we would like to be. As bugs, we went on a mission and rescued people despite facing many obstacles along the way. We slithered and crawled our way to success!

Animal yoga was next, and everyone did so great today! Campers are sure to be little yoginis by the end of this summer.

In cooking today we made a treat for our bird friends using pine cones, bird seed and lard! After that we made our own bubbles and bubble wands and went outside to blow bubbles. We filled all of Chicago with our bubbles!

After a fun art project where we made snakes out of looped paper, we said goodbye to morning campers and hello to afternoon campers!

In the afternoon... we went to China! Ni Hao!
We learned about some of the things that make China so special, including it's large size, famous inventions (like the compass, fireworks and paper), and the animals that are native to the country.

Next we sang a dragon song, made a dragon art project and even made our own Great Wall with popsicle sticks and sugar cubes.

In science we made our own paper from scratch! We used a blender to mix used paper and water into a mushy paper pulp. After spreading the pulp onto screens we allowed it to dry in the sun. We cut up our homemade paper and gave everyone a piece to take home and remember this awesome afternoon!

Wednesday, July 13

We welcomed all of our camp friends this morning with our opening circle time, before heading outside for some high-energy games!

Later we heard a story about a magically enchanted forest and all of the animals that live inside that go roar, chirp and ribbit! We found out that we had been invited to attend a tea party hosted by the one-and-only fairy princess on the other side of the forest.

We practiced being fairies before crossing a river, hopping from lily pad to lily pad, planting tulips, rescuing some dragon eggs and crossing the troll bridge. We really wanted to attend that party! After turning into several different animals from the effects of magic beans, we arrived at the royal tea party. How fantastic!!

In art we painted our own beautiful fairy wings.

Afternoon camp was equally exciting today! We played outside with the parachute, practiced our ball-kicking skills, and played several games including Mother May I, Tail Tag and Hide and Seek. Later we made a beehive art project and did some animal-pose yoga before saying goodbye in our closing circle.

Tuesday, July 12

This morning camp started with some energetic circle time and outdoor games! It was a beautiful day and we all enjoyed warming up with our big group of friends.

Later we focused on one of our favorite books, The Cat In The Hat! We read the story together, acted out several parts including pretending we were playing in the rain, swimming like the goldfish in the story, balancing ourselves and things on our head like the cat in the story. After feeling very in-tune with the book, we created our very own white and red striped hats.

We finished our morning session with some yoga, practicing poses of things that can fly! We all had a very good time today.

For our afternoon camp session we sang some super fun and silly songs, including "These Are My Glasses", "Bubblegum", "Buzz Buzz" and "Freddy the Frog" and then did some animal yoga poses.

Outdoor playtime was really fun with our friends and the outdoor play equipment at Catherine Cook School. During Creative Movement we played with the parachute and did some jumping and bouncing activities.

After creating some bird's nest art projects we imagined we were superheroes for a little while until it was time to say goodbye in our closing circle.

Monday, July 11th - Day 15!

This week we are doing full-day camps, so we're having more fun than ever! This also means our posts were slightly delayed. Thank you for your patience!

Day 15 was QUITE a day! We made the most of our large indoor spaces to enjoy this rainy day. Our focus? Learning how to make the most use of our super powers! We warmed up with some free play, hula hoops and ball bouncing.

We recited the official Super Hero oath, "I promise to help not hurt, to protect everyone from harm, and to use my brain over my muscles, and to respect every one’s force field." Next was training -- we practiced morphing, speed and telepathy. The Super Heroes read my mind and helped me tell an exceptionally imaginative story.

This was followed by an art activity, during which we made awesome masks and decorated capes to complete our "super" look.

We also took a moment to stop and wish Nicholas a very happy birthday!!

In the afternoon, we had a great time making an Outer Space scene during art.

We used our imaginations to go camping! After packing our bags we hiked up a mountain, set up camp, made a fire and told stories around it. We also worked hard on practicing our Jedi senses and warrior poses in yoga.

At the end of both morning and afternoon camps we took a moment to remember our fantastic day, and talk about our favorite parts.

Day 13!

Oh the fun we had at Bubbles Camp today! We started off with hello circle and went from there!

Then we went outside, and since the weather was so cool and comfortable, we played A LOT of games! We played Kick The Can, Hide and Seek, Wonder Ball Chase, Duck Duck Goose... we even had some races on the big jumper balls!

Then we read a story and ate snack!

After snack, we used our imaginations and pretended to go camping.

We packed our bags, went searching for a camp site, then built our tent out of a parachute.

Once we were in the parachute, a bear came to try and steal our food and we played a round of Bear Freeze Tag!

Then once we had escaped the bear, we realized that he had stolen all of our food (except for Ioanna's whose food we ate to tide us over until a bigger meal). Luckily, Miss Steph found a hiking map that led to more food for our trip. But before we got to the food, we had to climb a wall, swim accross a lake, climb a mountain, swim in a river, sneak through a barn, row a boat from a deserted island and then sing some bears to sleep!

Once we had our food to eat, we decided to build a fire and tell stories around it. The campers read Miss Steph's mind and together, everyone played a part in telling a story about a Princess who had to bring a Witch's Castle, a haunted house (Lila) and some earwax (Tyler) to a dragon and a bear so that she wouldn't be put in jail. Luckily, the Princess found a witch, a fairy godmother and a prince to help her get all three things. At the end of the story, it turned out that the dragon was just the Queen in costume testing the Princess' smarts to decide if she would be able to reign over the kingdom. The Princess passed the test!

Then it was art time! Each camper had the opportunity to make their own hiking map!

We had SO much fun that the day FLEW by! After art, it was time to say our goodbyes in one final circle time!

Day 12

A BIG day at Bubbles Camp! We had our largest group of campers yet! And, as we found out in opening circle time, they were so much fun to dance, sing and play with!

At the beginning of our camp day, we took turns participating in outdoor games, like Hide and Go Seek and Duck Duck Goose and Sneak Kick The Ball, with Miss Steph...

And doing animal poses in Yoga with Miss Sam!

Then we read a story by Dr. Seuss called The Sleep Book and sat down to eat snack!

After snack, some campers went to Creative Movement with Miss Steph. We pretended to be different animals on the farm like chickens and roosters. Next we pretended to be pigs, doing different things like rolling in mud, eating grass, taking a shower and even doing tricks! We even played a game where we all had to act like silly animals sneaking out of Old MacDonald's Farm!

Meanwhile, Miss Sam showed everyone how to make a sheep and a chic hatching from its egg in art!

Before we knew it, it was time to say our goodbyes, so we sang some songs about pirates and floppy ears, then went to play until our grown-ups came!

Day 11!

Here are some camp highlights and pictures for your pleasure! Today we talked about what we did on the Fourth of July during opening circles. Some of us had gone to picnics, some had seen fireworks and others had gone swimming!

We went outside to play Freeze Tag, Hide and Go Seek, and Kick the Can (can=ball)!

We decorated butterfly wings by painting one wing and then folding it onto the other, creating beautiful symmetry!

We read Leonardo The Terrible Monster, an old favorite. Our new friend Tyler took turns reading pages with Miss Steph. He was an excellent reader!

Then we ate snack and did some movement games. We pretended to be caterpillars hatching from our eggs, eating lots of leaves and then building a chrysalis and emerging as butterflies. Then we played some really fun parachute games.

We made chef hats!

Then we mixed some instant pudding mix with milk, crushed some Oreos and then put all of the ingredients in one cup with gummy worms. We really enjoyed eating all of that dirt and worms!

Then it was time to go. We said our goodbyes in circle time and played until every camper was picked up!

Day 10!

We went to town like Yankee Doodle today at Bubbles Camp!

We started off strong... singing, dancing and even playing instruments during opening circle time!

Then we went outside to play SEVERAL types of tag: Chase, Troll Tag, Blob Tag, Hide and Go Seek Tag, Dodge Ball Tag, and Bubble Tag.

Then we went downstairs to make some patriotic art projects: American Flags, Splatter Fireworks, and 3D Fireworks. We started experimenting with mixing colors when we dipped our 3D fireworks into different paints to see how they would look when they came out. White dipped in red looked like pink, yellow dipped in blue looked green and yellow dipped in red made orange!

After art, we acted out a story about the Fourth of July and ate some snack. Then, we pretended the gym was our kitchen and we baked the USA a birthday cake and pretended to be candles which Noah blew out! Once the candles were all blown out, we celebrated with a parade and a freeze dance party!

The freeze dance party made us hungry AGAIN, so we jumped like fireworks to cooking. There, we made flags using blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream! Graham figured out that he liked whipped cream for the first time -- but only by itself, not with the berries.

After we had refilled our tummies, it was time to say goodbye to our friends. We did a few movement songs, talked about our favorite parts of camp (everyone seemed to like either blob tag, cooking or art) and then we sang our goodbye song.

Day 9

It was a ROCK STAR PAR-TAY at Bubbles Camp today!

The concert started in circle time when we pretended our scarves were different instruments! We sang all sorts of songs in our rock star voices and then learned how to put our pinky and pointer fingers up to say, "rock on!"

Miss Tamara did a rock star encore while leading our imagination activity! All of the Bubbles Campers created their own band name, banner and signature song and dance. Graham put it best when, while coloring in his band's banner, he said, "This is going to be a great success." And he was right!

Meanwhile, Miss Steph was outside with other Bubbles Campers leaping, crab walking, side stepping and running backwards. On the roof, Bubbles Campers played Wonder Ball, Duck Duck Goose, Chase, and a self-started game of What Time Is It Mr. Fox? Everyone was really supportive of their friends today, especially during Duck Duck Goose when campers were chanting the name of whoever was running around the circle. It's worth noting that the campers did an excellent job playing a new game called Captain's Coming where they had to do all sorts of motions before the captain (Miss Steph) caught them being too slow. It was a pretty complicated game, but everyone picked it up very quickly and did an EXCELLENT JOB playing!

Then we read a story and ate snack. At snack we talked about our favorite songs, our favorite animals and discussed whether or not Oobleck has to be green or if it could be a different color -- and if it is a different color, what does it do and what does it mean?
...We got pretty philosophical, just like real rock stars tend to do.

After snack, Bubbles Campers dressed up and performed in rock concerts for each other. Sweet dance moves were displayed by all.

Once our shows were finished, we all went backstage to make guitars and shakers during art time -- so that Bubbles Campers could practice their mad music skills at home. In fact, Alex and Ben both started practicing their air guitars at Bubbles Camp. Ben practiced so hard, his guitar ripped! Talk about cutting teeth!

Then, it was time for music which ended in a HUGE BREAK DANCE CIRCLE! Even Mr. Mark got down with us and taught us some new moves!

Finally it was time to go, so we said goodbye during our closing circle!

Day 8: Pirates Are Great!

Ahoy there, me hearties! Avast ye and gather round as I tell you the tale of our Bubbles Academy Camp day!

Our Bubbles Buccaneers weighed anchor and hoisted the mizzen by singing and dancing during opening circle time! Then each lad and lass talked about what they would keep in their buried treasure chest! Gracie said she would hide cherry ice cream in there, Matthew said he'd hide balloons and Noah said he'd hide car keys in his treasure chest!

Yarrrr!

Next we all sang songs about being fish in the sea and pirates on a boat during music!

After music, we split up into two ships and set sail. Some of us went to art to make treasure holders (AKA piggy banks)...

While others went to drama to pretend to be pirates!

After that, we took turns going outside and eating our snacks! We had SO much fun playing games like Freeze Tag, Duck Duck Goose and The Wonder Ball! Some Bubbles Buckos even started their own game of What Time Is It Mr. Fox? Then each ship of campers switched places and took turns participating in drama and art!

By the end of the camp day, Joey had learned to hoola hoop, Bianca had played a game of catch without dropping the ball once and Nicholas and Graham ran faster than Old Salt Steph and Old Salt Tamara in a game of Sharks and Minnows.

At the end of camp, Old Salt Steph had the campers singing and dancing again in closing circle time. Campers shared their favorite parts of the camp day which included, making piggy banks, playing wonder ball and running on the track!

Day 7: Dinosaur Heaven!

...And we're back and better than ever! The first day in Catherine Cook's gym was a total success! Drop-off open play was REALLY fun today because of all the new cool toys we had to play with: hoppers, hoola hoops, and balls.

Everyone did an impressive job singing and dancing during morning circle time -- seems like everyone has learned the motions and lyrics to all of our songs!

Also at morning circle, we talked about our favorite dinosaurs which included Thunder Dinosaur, Horse Dinosaur, Small Dinosaur, and Diplodocus. Then, we heard the story of a plant that was around when the dinosaurs roamed the earth! Before the ice age, this plant grew to be even taller than a T-Rex! Since it was forced to mutate during the ice age, the Dino Plant is small and light. It dries up and blows around in the wind until it lands in a puddle and starts to bloom and grow again. Over the course of the day, the Dino Plant opened its leaves!

When we were done watering our Dino Plant, we climbed ALL of the stairs up to the roof and played games outside! We pretended to be Brachiosaurouses...

T-Rexes and more!

Then we played Dinotail Tag and had some free play on the playground.

Next was art! We decorated some dinosaurs with silly shapes and colors.

When art was over, it was time to do more moving and singing with Miss Tamara during music! She had us dancing like dinosaurs!

During one part we even joined forces with some of our camp-mates to make our bodies into one BIG dinosaur. Zain and Graham made themselves into a Pterodactyl while Miss Steph's group made themselves into a Stegasaurus and Miss Tamara's group became a T-Rex.

The Bubbles Campers were doing such an excellent job with team work, we decided to do some team relay races with dinosaur eggs (balls). We tried rolling a ball all the way down the line through our legs!

Then we tried doing the "Dinosaur Walk" with eggs between our dinosaur legs!

Before our camp day came to an end, we found the time to build some volcanoes out of Model Magic, color them, then MAKE THEM EXPLODE!!! Everyone was really impressed with the lava that erupted from the volcanoes -- baking soda and vinegar make A LOT of bubbles!

The camp day came to an end with a closing circle time. We talked about our favorite parts of camp, which included making volcanoes erupt, playing Dinotail Tag on the roof and the art project! Then we said our goodbyes and played until we were picked up. DINO-MITE!

Day 6!

Today's entry will be short -- because we just finished moving Bubbles Academy Camp into our new digs, the Catherine Cook gym! The gym looks GREAT and now we're going to have EVEN MORE space to run and play!

Being in the gym will make everyone's lives easier: Grown ups, now you won't have to walk up all of those stairs to drop your camper off and pick them up! Tomorrow, just put on your flashers, jump out of your car and sign in and out at the gym entrance!

Camp Day 5

It's FRIDAY! And while most people are happy to see the week come to a close, everyone at Bubbles Camp is sad to have to spend the next two days away from the camp-time fun.

Matthew started everyone's day with a dose of positivity by praising all of his friends for doing a great job building with Popsicle sticks and sugar cubes. For the rest of the day he continued to share with friends, invite campers to play and to help friends out when they needed it. What a great guy! Just one of many very kind and supportive friends at Bubbles Academy Camp.

When we were done with morning open play, we went to morning circle. There we practiced our "Tudy Tott Tott" rules dance, our "More We Get Together" song, and "Blow The Balloon" scarf play (Zain's self-proclaimed favorite).

After morning circle we all made the trek through the school halls, where we acted like different animals walking and stopping, then over the Bridge of Silence, where our voices stopped working and our feet could only move by tip toeing, up to the rooftop playground to play games.

Once we got to the roof we played games like Crab Ball, a game that required us to walk around like a crab and kick balls around. We played Keep The Ball In The Circle and used team work and some big kicks to keep the ball IN THE CIRCLE!!! We also practiced some gymnastics and chase games!

After Outdoor Games, we went back inside to make some lemonade! We squeezed lemons, added sugar and water and took a small taste of our creation!

The lemonade made us hungry, so we read a story and ate some snack right after we made it! Our story was called Swimmy. It was about a brave fish who helped his fishy friends be brave. All of the campers answered the question, "how do you make a scared friend feel better?" Brooks said that he would sing to them; Joey told us a story about how he held his scared brother's hand to help him feel brave; Lila said she'd give her friend a kitty cat.

Next it was time to get moving again! We acted out the story of Max in Where The Wild Things Are!

After that, we made boats in art -- just like Max's from Where The Wild Things Are!

Then, before we knew it, it was time to go! So we did a quick goodbye circle and went home for the much-too-long-to-be-away-from-camp weekend.

Camp Day 4!

It happened again! Another great day at Bubbles Academy Summer Camp!

This day seemed to have two themes, one planned and one spontaneous:

Theme one was all about the human body. We started talking about our bodies at during opening circle time when we answered the question, "What do you do to keep your body safe and healthy?" We gave some very informed responses: some of us run to stay fit, some of us wear a helmet while bicycling and others eat healthy foods.

The second theme of the day, friendship, became a focus more and more over the course of the day as the Bubbles Teachers watched their campers build bonds and help their friends.

Amelia took a sad friend under her wing first thing in the morning by saying, "Do you want to be my friend?" Amelia stuck by her friend (now happier to have a buddy) during each activity and helped her to participate and feel welcome at Bubbles Camp.

During art, Ben told all of his friends, "You all can come over to my house after." Everyone thought that was a great idea.

We split into two groups again today. During the first half of our day, some of us went to the roof to play games with Miss Tamara! Everyone's favorite game seemed to be crab ball, where you walk around on all fours like a crab and kick the ball with your feet -- it was so much fun!

While one group was with Miss Tamara, another group was with Miss Steph, taking a trip into the human body. We looked at the bones and organs in our diagram boy's (Arnold's) body. We felt our own lungs get bigger and smaller, felt our hard bones, and then jumped down Arnold's throat to save Arnold from his sickness. Once inside his body, we went into his belly to see what he ate then got absorbed into his bloodstream to find the viruses. Then we made Arnold cough and jumped out of his mouth. Graham had so much fun in this part of camp, he exclaimed, "I could do this all day!"

All that running around on the roof and talking about what Arnold ate made us hungry, so we decided to sit down for snack time.

After a super fun snack time, when Miss Tamara wore a pair of silly glasses that turned her into a goof-ball teacher, it was time to break up into our groups again. Unfortunately, Miss Tamara did not leave her silly glasses on to teach art.

Meanwhile, Miss Steph was teaching a yoga class during which we rolled around like monkeys, kicked like donkeys and waddled like penguins.

Last was our goodbye circle, the perfect chance to show off the crazy banana song we had learned earlier in the day! We shared our favorite parts of camp, including (but NOT limited to): running around on the roof, searching for viruses and crab ball.

Camp Day 3

It was a royally wonderful day today at Bubbles Camp!

The campers, ready to start the day, jumped right into playing! Many friends decided to try on some silly costumes, others built a castle out of Popsicle sticks. Meanwhile, Derrick, our resident artist, drew an amazingly accurate picture of a fire engine!

Conversations about Bubbles' Enchanted Kingdom started during circle time, when everyone shared who they would want to be in the Bubbles Kingdom. Our kingdom consisted of some princesses, three kings, a few dragons, a handful of knights, a fire bishop (Zain) and a waitress (Saylor).

There were SO many of us at camp today, we had to divide into two groups after circle time!

Each group had a chance to play some outdoor games on the roof. There, we ran around during a game of Chase, got really hungry during What Time is it Mr. Fox? and swam through the waves during Fishie Fishie In My Sea. A great time was had by all!

While one group was on the roof with Miss Steph, the OTHER group was downstairs making royal crowns and knight's armor with Miss Tamara in art.

After our two morning classes, we all got back together for a super fun story and snack time. Our story of the day was Curious George Goes to School.

At snack, Noah and Joey started a conversation about roller coasters and we found out who had been on a roller coaster, what it looked like and whether each person enjoyed their ride or not. We had a great time talking about our experiences!

When snack was over, it was time to split into our groups again.

If your Bubbles Camper is looking a little bit more graceful and dignified, that is only because of Miss Tamara's lesson about royalty. While with Miss Tamara, campers acted out the story of The Princess and The Pea, danced very properly to royal music, and learned their manners.

Miss Steph, on the other hand, turned all of those clean, polite campers into sticky messes by giving all of the ingredients to make homemade play doh!

Last was a song-filled goodbye circle time where Noah voiced all of our thoughts by saying, "This is the end of the day? I am REALLY going to miss you guys."

Camp Day 2

The campers exuded enthusiasm from the start to the end of camp today! Down to every detail, we were excited about our activities. Zain exemplified our excitement when he asked Miss Steph and Miss Tamara for help putting on a costume accessory by saying, "Will you help put this bad boy on me?" Needless to say, no game was played, no project was made, no song was sung without the essence of fun seeping its way into it.

After an exciting welcome play time, when we met some new friends and said hello to the old ones, we went to circle time. There we each had a chance to talk about what type of super power we would want if we were superheroes. The most desired powers were flying, invisibility, super speed and rainbows. Cate got extra creative and wished for the super power of art!

Next we ran around on the rooftop during outdoor games. We took turns being traffic controllers during "Red Light/Green Light" and pretended to be foxes during a game called "What Time is it Mr. Fox?" There were some pretty fast and energetic campers in attendance today -- I know from experience... they chased me around the playground.

Once we recouped, got some water, and walked like sneaky dinosaurs back to our classroom, it was time for art. We used markers, glue and cloth shapes to make superhero capes. Different shapes meant different things to us. Circles turned us invisible, squares made us fly and tear-drop shapes caused a flood!

After reading a book called, The Best Nest, we chatted with our friends over our yummy snacks!

When we were done, we had energy to burn, so we went on a bubble chase around the blue track and then came back for music time. Miss Tamara taught us a lot of songs, one was about having animals on our heads -- and we each had a stuffed animal on our head that we had to dance and sing with. Another song was about moving in different ways by the side of a river. We had a blast watching Miss Tamara play her ukulele while we danced and learned new tunes to sing together.

The last part of camp today was spent in superhero training. Together we recited the Superhero Oath,

"I promise to help, not hurt,

To protect everyone from harm,

To use my brain over my muscles,

And to respect everyone's force field."

When we were done we looked at pictures of superheroes and practiced using their super powers.

Then, the campers read Miss Steph's mind and told the story that she was thinking about -- without her having to say a word!

In Miss Steph's mind (as read by the campers) there was a story about Batman! Batman turned into a bat to help save Wonder Woman who was trapped in a cage. Unfortunately for Batman, Super Woman was planning to save Wonder Woman at the exact same time, so Super Woman and Batman bumped heads and fell down. Luckily Superman flew in to save everybody! How did they know that's what Miss Steph was thinking!? ...Telepathy.
...I wouldn't be surprised if they knew you were reading this right now, without even having to look...

First Day of Camp!

The first day of Bubbles Academy Summer Camp was a great success! Everyone seemed to agree with Gabriel when he said, "This is a really good school." We had plenty of space to run, sing, play and imagine together all day long!

Camp started with a bang as we pretended to blow and pop balloons during a high-energy circle time. All of the campers took turns talking about their favorite bugs and then learned the signs to the song, "The More We Get Together." Then we jumped (literally) to art!

During art, we all collaborated to make a really long Hungry Caterpillar out of crayons and watercolor paints as well as some buzzing bumble bees!

Next was Yoga! There, we learned the song Bubbles Yoginis sing to get into half lotus pose and then we sang it in some silly voices; Graham got everyone to sing like fire breathing dragons and Gabe got everyone to sing like roaring dinosaurs. Then we met 14 different animals and did the poses named after each of them. We roared like lions, flew like a birds, hopped like frogs and stomped like elephants!

During Snack, we read Leonardo The Terrible Monster and made faces to reflect how Leonardo was feeling during each part of the book. Ben (also known as Batman for the day) was especially good at making scary faces and led the rest of the campers in some big, brave monster roars.

We all took turns going to the bathroom during snack time, and, for some of us, even THAT was an adventure to remember: Joey and Brooks were amazed by the automatic sinks and impressed by the seemingly magic hand dryers!

Once the campers' tummies were full and their bodies were re-energized, we got suited up and climbed into our inflatable spaceship (AKA a parachute), climbed through some space wormholes (tunnels) and went searching for shooting stars that had magical powers. Our magic stars made us run REALLY fast and we showed off our speed by running around Catherine Cook's blue track! When were done being speedy, we used our magic stars to turn us into aliens, then made some alien stew. Everyone had a turn to add a silly ingredient; we added moon rocks, frogs, cranberries, and to top it all off, Quinn added a handful of sparkles. Mwah! Magnifico!

The track had been SO much fun, Joey made a special request to do one more run around, so we all went for one more sprint!

After getting a really good workout, we went to science where we made our own greenhouses! We talked about how the water and heat from the sun gets trapped inside the plastic bag of the greenhouse. Once we add water and close the bag, all we need to do is leave the greenhouse by a sunny window and our seeds will start to grow into beautiful flowers.

During our goodbye circle, we each shared our favorite part of camp. Popular favorites were: running around the track, going up in a spaceship and planting seeds! All in all, it was an excellent first day. Each of us went home new memories of exciting activities as well as some very fun new friends.

Hello, Summer Camp Families!
With Bubbles Academy Summer Camp fun right around the corner, it's now time to quickly brief you with some reminders, procedures and schedules. This information is provided to help you and your child make the most of their camp experience. If you have any questions not answered here, please call us at (312) 944-7677. We look forward to enjoying a fun, action-packed summer with your children!

Day-to-Day Outline: Each camp day will begin with a welcome period where campers get to reconnect with yesterday's friends, or meet new ones! Next we'll have a camp-wide circle time to start the day off right. Campers then split into age-appropriate groups to enjoy imagination activities, yoga, sports and games. About halfway through the day we'll come together again for a restful story, a refreshing snack and a restroom break. Finally, we will wrap up the day in one of several special activities such as art, songs, cooking or science.

Separation: We are very sensitive to the process of going to Summer Camp independently and separating for the first time in preparation for the school year. We recommend a brief goodbye such as a kiss and a reminder that you will be back in a few hours. Let them know where you will be and remind them to have fun!

We also understand that separation is sometimes more difficult for the adults! The more comfortable you feel saying goodbye, the easier it will be for your child to take the separation in stride. The key is to be calm, patient, and positive!

If you are concerned about the separation process we recommend joining our Bubble Step or Bubble Bees programs in lieu of camp, where we can set a customized separation plan for you and your child.

Potty Training: All children must be potty trained to participate in camp (pull-ups are not allowed). We realize that accidents may happen, so please send a change of clothes. Please drop these articles off in a clear Ziploc bag, with your child's name clearly labeled, on each day of camp.

Snack + Food Projects: Each camper should bring a healthy snack with his or her name on it (no lunches please). If it requires refrigeration please mark it with a large "R". No nut-based snacks, please, for the safety of our campers with severe allergies.

If your child has allergy concerns, please tell your camp teacher and the Bubbles Academy staff. This will allow us to contact you, via phone, prior to a camp day where an activity includes a food-based cooking project.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Specifics
Drop-Off Time: 9:00 AM

Drop-off will be through the southeast alley door of the gymnasium for all campers. The street in front of this entrance, Schiller, is a loading zone only. If you leave your car there for any reason, please turn on your flashers.

Campers must be signed in by their caregiver each day. At this time we will collect your child's snack, change of clothes for the day, and ask you to write down an emergency contact number. Please alert our team if your child's snack needs to be refrigerated.
Please communicate to your camp teacher if someone else will be picking up your child that day. You must provide their name, and they will need to present an ID at pick up.
Pick-Up Time: 12:00 PM

Absences: Space permitting, missed classes due to illness can be made-up during the remaining Summer Camp days. Please do not bring your child to camp if he or she is experiencing symptoms of illness, we will do our best to accommodate you into another day of camp. Please call Bubbles Academy at 312-944-7677 to let us know in advance if your child will be missing a camp day so we can make adjustments accordingly.

Hello Space Robots,

Blast off! We had an exciting week exploring outer space. We learned about all of the planets, flew in a spaceship and met an intelligent life form -- our alien guide, Zuma II.

Making edible moon rocks was a fun and tasty project. We created our own space packs, sparkley saturns and drew landscape space scenes to help document our journey. All in all, it was... out of this world.

This week, we packed our backpacks and traveled all around the world. We visited Africa, China, Japan, Australia and the Grand Canyon with our trusty tour guide, Eco Eddie.

We made animal masks and necklaces, rain forest shakers and beautiful butterflies as we learned about different types of animals. One adventurous day, we even made some delicious s'mores. Yummo!

Hello Gumshoes,

Shhhhh. This week we solved many top secret mysteries. Using our super sleuth spy kits, we discovered the missing dinosaur bone. The jig is up for one Mr. Bubbles Bandit! Chicago's museums are safe once more. Spy power!

We cooked pizza and solved lots of puzzles. We had a blast being international men and women of mystery. Between missions, we even had time to write some of our own mysteries. Good work, detectives.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

Royal Claps all around. This week, we traveled all over the royal kingdom to meet dragons, magical creatures, knights, princesses, lords and ladies. We made beautiful crowns, regal wands, magic potions and even had a royal tea party.

Dancing at the royal ball with her highness was a highlight of the week. Cookie decorating, writing our own once-upon-a-time fairy tales, singing songs and playing with our royal friends was a very fun time too!

Hello Beetle Boys and Lady Bugs,

Meep! Meep! We had a blast on our week-long Bugventure. We were bees, butterflies, worms, spiders and even cockroaches. We made beautiful grass crowns, yummy dirt pudding (with worms!), watercolor flowers with bees and creative sculptures inspired by the all the neat things in nature.

Using our imaginations to act out stories and create our own original adventures was so much fun with our buggy dress-up. We learned the importance of working together to accomplish goals and had a super fly time!

Power Up! This week, we learned how to save the world by becoming a superhero. We created our own super powers, super identity, super costumes and super fuel. Once we got the hang of our new super identities, "Kablaam!" it was time for training. We fine-tuned our agility, balance, morphing and aim to ensure we were in tip-top superhero condition.

Each day, we recovered a message from the Super Big Bubble and his trusty dog, Francis. I can proudly report that every courageous superhero rose to the challenges placed before him or her and "Whoosh," soared to new heights of heroism.

I know we can count on you to keep protecting the world, Superheroes.

Hello Scientists!

We had so much fun exploring the wacky world of science this week. Professor Petri guided us as we made slimy goop, sprouted lima beans and even erupted a volcano in the Bubble Lab! We found where art and science collide as we painted with ice, moved water against gravity and painted the walls. Learning about magnets and studying slides with our microscope was fun and educational. And of course, there was lots of dancing, playing and singing. We laughed "Muah-hah-hah" all week long with inventor's delight!

Ahoy Mateys!

We've had an awesome time sailing the seven seas during our Pirate and Mermaid camp week. On Monday, we made beautiful underwater masterpieces and found cool creatures in our yoga treasure chest. We created our own sand art on Tuesday and even made a treasure map. We met Grumpy Gus, a silly old pirate who took our treasure on Wednesday. We worked together to outsmart him and get our booty back. On Thursday we made some silly fish Jello. Yummy! Finally on Friday, we took a trip around the world and met many new friends!

We'll kick off our summer on Monday, July 5th with our Pirate and Mermaid Adventure. Grab your eye patch, put that parrot on your shoulder and let's head out for a week on the high seas.
